日本時間で8月8日、KRVで一人歩いている時に、左後ろ脚をかばって歩いていた。

その後、滝にも上がったが、本調子ではなかったようである。

野生で生きるということは、ほんの小さなことが命取りになりかねない。

それでも滝に上がるだけの気力があったということは、大ごとではないと思う。

そう願っている。

ブルックスリバー周辺の風景も少しずつ変わってきた。

あれだけたくさんいた親子たちの姿が減り、一旦顔を出した大きなオスたちも、一部を残してまた去っている。おそらく、違う場所へと移動しているのだろう。

毎年マーゴットクリークへと旅をするものもいる。

7月末になるとベニザケの遡上が終わるが、ブルックスリバーの水温はまだ産卵には高すぎるため、クマたちはブルックス湖やナクネク湖に流れ込む湧水由来の支流へ散っていく。そこで一足早く産卵を始めるサケを集中的に捕るのだ。

そして8月下旬、気温が下がり、産卵のためにサケが再びブルックスリバーへ入ってくると、クマたちも戻ってくる。夏の終わりにはさまざまなベリーも実り、クマにとっては冬眠に向けて栄養を蓄える季節となる。

サケの動きと季節の実りに合わせて、クマたちも場所を変えながら暮らしている。

一方、彼女はずっとこのブルックスリバーで過ごすグループの一人だ。

母クマ909もそうだし、途中から彼女の面倒を見てくれた叔母クマ910も同じ。

彼女は他の場所を知らないのかもしれない。

The landscape around Brooks River is beginning to change little by little.Many of the mothers and cubs that had been everywhere are now gone, and most of the large males that appeared for a while have left again as well.They have probably moved on to other places.Some make the journey to Margot Creek every year.

By the end of July, the main sockeye salmon run comes to an end. The water in Brooks River is still too warm for spawning, so the bears disperse to spring-fed tributaries flowing into Lake Brooks and Naknek Lake, where salmon begin spawning earlier. There, the bears concentrate their fishing.

By late August, as the air grows colder and salmon begin moving back into Brooks River to spawn, the bears return as well.Late summer also brings many kinds of berries, making this an important season for bears to build up their reserves before hibernation.

Following the movements of salmon and the seasonal abundance of food, the bears move from place to place.

She, on the other hand, is one of the bears that seems to spend the whole season around Brooks River.Her mother, 909, is the same, as is her aunt 910, who began looking after her along the way.
