いよいよ明日、アラスカ現地時間の6月23日 11:00。日本時間では6月24日 4:00に、

explore.org の Brooks Falls Brown Bear Cam がオープンする。

遠いアラスカへ通じる小さな扉が、再び開く。

その前に、2025年の彼女を描いた作品 In Passing を置いておきたい。

昨年、彼女はファミリーから独り立ちし、初めてひとりで季節を過ごすことになった。

その年にサーモンが豊富だったことは、彼女にとって大きな幸運だったと思う。

彼女は滝でも水中でも、見事にサーモンを射止めた。

夏になる頃には、若いクマ同士で戯れる余裕も見せ、子グマの頃に育んだつながりを再び確かめあうような時間もあった。

そんな遊びのひと時、定点カメラの向こう側へと消えていく一瞬、こちらを振り返った彼女。その姿を描いたのが、この水彩画だ。

その先には、私たちには見ることのできない、彼女たちだけの世界が続いている。

もう間もなく、アラスカへの扉が開く。

今年は、彼女のどんな時間を覗くことになるのだろう。

Before that, I want to place here In Passing, a painting of her from 2025.

Last year, she became independent from her family and spent the season on her own for the first time.I think it was a great stroke of luck for her that salmon were abundant that year.

She caught salmon beautifully, both at the falls and underwater.

By summer, she seemed to have enough ease to play with other young bears, and there were moments when she appeared to reconnect with bonds formed when she was still a cub.

During one of those playful moments, just as she was disappearing beyond the fixed camera’s view, she turned back toward us.This watercolor painting was born from that moment.

Beyond that point lies a world we cannot see — a world that belongs only to them.

Soon, the door to Alaska will open.
